Carnival season and the beginning of Lent are a wonderful time in New Orleans and at St. Louis Cathedral. We welcome those who come for Mass, Confession, quiet prayer, or simply to be inspired by the beauty of our worship space. However, the season does present logistical challenges in the French Quarter and in the Central Business District. To remain a welcoming site while balancing those challenges, we offer the following schedule for 2025:
Saturday, March 1 Cathedral open 9:00 a.m - 2:00 p.m. No Vigil Mass
Sunday, March 2 Cathedral open as usual for Masses at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Cathedral closed to visitors at 1:00 p.m.
Monday, March 3 (Lundi Gras) Cathedral open 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Mass as usual at 12:05 p.m. Office Closed Tuesday, March 4 (Mardi Gras) Mass will not be celebrated. Cathedral closed Office closed
Wednesday, March 5 (Ash Wednesday) Cathedral open 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Mass and distribution of ashes at 12:05 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
